Book Auction - For the Corn Family

I'm sure every single one of us has gone through the heartbreak of losing someone we love, and can understand that on top of the strength it takes just to get through each day and look after the people still in your life, there's nothing you want to think about less than the financial ramifications. You don't want it to matter, but it's there nonetheless, a stress that we shouldn't have to deal with during such a time.

Fellow author, and exceptionally kind and compassionate person, Nichole Chase approached me about the loss of her close friend, and I and many in the author community were moved to help in what little way we can. You can help too. Here is Nichole's message to us about Matthew Corn and his family and the amazing auction she's put together to help them.

Nichole Chase

On the night of February 10th, 2013, Matthew Corn passed away in a tragic accident. It’s impossible to sum up the life and vibrant personality of one person in a few short sentences. To say Matt will be missed is an understatement of gross proportions. He was a loving husband and devoted father, quick to give his family everything they needed and more. Matt moved from Pittsburgh to Savannah with his wife, Daniele, to work at Gulfstream. Here they had three children: Ben, 5, Andrew, 2, and Lily, 1. He was a hard worker; always giving one hundred and ten percent to his job, but never missed the chance to joke. He was known for being obsessively organized and neat. If you wanted to see him panic, all you had to do was move his tools out of order or get his jeep dirty. Matt was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan and Pittsburg Penguins fan, more than willing to go nose to nose for his favorite teams. He loved the outdoors and off-road ramp competitions. He spent time fishing and hunting with his children, eager to instill his love of nature. His friends knew him as a person that would drop everything if you needed help.
Now, it’s our turn to help. With the generous donations of these wonderful authors, we hope to raise money for the Corn Family to help with medical and living expenses. His loss has left a hole in the hearts of his family and friends that will never be filled, but it is our sincere wish that this auction will ease some of the burdens they face.

The website, www.forthecornfamily.us has been set up in their honor. Here we have ‘lots’ of books for readers to bid on. I’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity and willingness to help among the author and blogger community. Over thirty authors have donated books and/or audio books for the auction. Many of these authors are household names; authors that are New York Times and USA Today Bestsellers. It is our hope that we will be able to raise money for this family for the difficult times ahead.
The auction for the Corn Family will begin on February 22nd and will end on March 15th at Midnight.

Down London Road - A Teaser

Johanna Walker is used to taking charge. But she’s about to meet someone who will make her lose control....

It has always been up to Johanna to care for her family, particularly her younger brother, Cole. With an absent father and a useless mother, she’s been making decisions based on what’s best for Cole for as long as she can remember. She even determines what men to date by how much they can provide for her brother and her, not on whatever sparks may—or may not—fly.

But with Cameron MacCabe, the attraction is undeniable. The sexy new bartender at work gives her butterflies every time she looks at him. And for once, Jo is tempted to put her needs first. Cam is just as obsessed with getting to know Jo, but her walls are too solid to let him get close enough to even try.

Then Cam moves into the flat below Jo’s, and their blistering connection becomes impossible to ignore. Especially since Cam is determined to uncover all of Jo’s secrets …even if it means taking apart her defenses piece by piece.

So it's finally here... a first wee sneak peek at DOWN LONDON ROAD. Head on over to the fabulous Natasha is a Book Junkie blog to read the short, sexy teaser from the second book in the ON DUBLIN STREET series. Click on the pic...

Cover Reveal & Excerpt - Girls & Monsters by Anne Michaud

Girls & Monsters by Anne Michaud
Release Date: April 2013

Death Song Excerpt

Something catches in the back of my throat. I

hide my face in my hands to quiet the sobs. But then,
something ain’t right. Air moves around me and I
stop. I look between my fingers, but the blur of my
tears thickens everything: the bathtub, the towels,
and someone on the floor.
A woman’s in here with me, door still closed and
locked. An exhale, like after a deep swim, and a smell,
like the swamp close to my empty home. A chill runs
down my back, I wipe my eyes, rub and scratch them
to see more clearly. And I do.
Two gray hands scratch the floor tiles, nails green
with algae, putrid flesh sagging on her legs, arms
and torso, hair so long and wet and heavy, it drags
her down. Diluted, impossible to focus on, like little
waves rippling over her body from head to foot, seaweed
in the water. Scales and fins, mermaidlike, little
knives, those are. And they scrape the floor, like a
fork on a plate. It’s her—Limnade.
She opens her mouth of scissor-teeth and the rotten
smell of fish wraps around my throat like two
hands trying to choke me.
“You can’t be…” I don’t finish my breathless
thought and jump backward, knocking over the dish
of decorative soaps. Blurry waves, vision impaired,
out of focus, unreal. She crawls toward me, eyes unblinking,
lethal, hands inches from me: my legs refuse
to move, as my body feels like stone. Frozen,
hypnotized, a statue. Then I hear something coming
from within her…
A melody, reminding me of something lost, tickles
my ears. It drags on until the sweetness turns sickly,
vibrating into a full-on super-scream, hyenalike,
enough to pop my ears and make them bleed. Her
large mouth deforms her face into one gap of black,
the cry so high and strident, I scream from the pain.
Limnade stares at me, everything but her fades
away—Jo’s nice bathroom, Jo’s new life, Jo himself—
none of it matters anymore. Her fingers brush my
forehead, they’re cold and sticky like clams. And I let
the darkness take me away.

Add Girls & Monsters to your goodreads shelf

Anne Michaud is a freakin' great writer and I am so excited for her upcoming release Girls & Monsters. Isn't the cover amazing? Here is all you need to know about Anne...

She who likes dark things never grew up. She never stopped listening to gothic, industrial and alternative bands like when she was fifteen. She always loved to read horror and dystopia and fantasy, where doom and gloom drip from the pages.

She, who was supposed to make films, decided to write short stories, novelettes and novels instead. She, who’s had her films listed on festival programs, has been printed in a dozen anthologies and magazines since.

She who likes dark things prefers night to day, rain to sun, and reading to anything else.

It made him laugh. “I don’t remember ever feeling this good.”
“Me neither.”
“Do you want to run away?” he joked, cuddling her close. “Just say ‘eff you all, we’re out of here.’”

Braden's Giveaway

Well, it's February and it's approaching the time of year when you can't walk into a store without a giant pink heart battering you in the face. I've always found spontaneous romance, and the seemingly small stuff, more romantic than the commercial "holiday" of Valentine's Day BUT my parent's anniversary is around the same time so I'm happy to be battered in the face with said heart in celebration of the 33 years they've been married.

 Yes. They rock.

I'm also more than happy to celebrate On Dublin Street whenever I can! Joss and Braden's romance was such a great journey for me and I love them to bits.
