My life has been pretty chaotic lately. That's not to say yours hasn't. I'm just letting you know I can sympathize with a chaotic life :p
Since the success of my adult contemporary romance novel 'On Dublin Street' I've been well... overwhelmed. And in amongst all that overwhelmingness (<---- she is a writer, right?) I've been attempting to write and complete Darkness, Kindled, book four in the Fire Spirits series.
Something happened. Again.
You see, when I started the Fire Spirits series I had pages and pages of notes and sticky notes and research and plans, and plans, and plans... I mapped out a six book series, which after the release of the first two books, I shrunk to a five book series that made more sense. The reason I mapped the book series out from the beginning is because it's a pretty complicated series and things unfurl throughout it and then piece themselves together like little puzzle pieces. No way I can finish a puzzle if I don't have those first pivotal pieces. Hence the mapping from the beginning.
That's not to say it always works out the way you plan it. For instance... like now.
I started writing Darkness, Kindled and it quickly became clear that the rest of Ari's story was going to be spread too thin over two more books. Not only that but it was going to end in a weird place at the end of book four. Stopping places should feel natural, not forced by the writer, and the ending just didn't work. The bad news then is that DK will be the last book in the Fire Spirits series. The good news is that it will be epic, possibly the longest book I've ever written, and so full of action and drama you'll probably never get a chance to breathe until the end! :D
Changing the length of the series has caused a number of rewrites so it almost feels like going back to the beginning on this one. Not to worry, I am working my little (okay, somewhat voluptuous) booty off to get DK released for the original Nov 23rd release date.
Wish me luck!
So with that in mind, here's the book trailer to the epic conclusion of the Fire Spirits series...

Congrats on all of the success of On Dublin Street! Love Braden :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for this book. I'm sad that the series is almost over, but I love rereading books, so it's all good!
Thanks for the update! Don't push yourself too hard though. Your fans will love you no matter what!!!
The trailer has made me so nervous ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Darkness, Kindled to see how Ari's exciting journey ends, it has been amazing so far and she has been through so much.
Good luck with it all Sam! I can't wait!!
Guys, thank you! I seriously have the most awesome and supportive readers EVER. I <3 you lots!!

Ok so like the six book series was shrunk into a five book series and now this is the last book in the series!!! What happened to book 5??? It can't ends so soon!! ( tears of sadness )
ReplyDelete@fire Djinn Nicole - I'm so sorry to disappoint anyone! I really am! But as I explained in the post, plans can only take you so far. It's not until you're actually writing the books that the story takes shape, and it doesn't make sense for the characters or the story for me to write another book. A fifth book would be for the sake of making money and I don't work that way. I write what's best for the characters, and what I hope is the best for my readers in the end. Hopefully, it'll become clearer to everyone when the book is released :)

As sad as I will be for the series to end, I just want it to be as great as it can be! I'm so excited for DK! And I know you'll start new awesome series, so it's all good :D
ReplyDeleteErmahgerd!!! I held my breath for the entire trailer...ahhhh. So excited!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I stumbled upon ODS (loved it), which led me to the Fire Spirits series, a genre I never thought I would explore! It did not take long to fall in love with the series. Looking forward to the fourth/final, and I am glad we won't have to wait too long!
ReplyDeleteThanks guys! I'm delighted you're all looking forward to the release :D

looking forward to the next one
ReplyDeleteand while I loved ODS my one worry is that your fantasy side is going to lessen - how are you going to balance both?
@Nikki D - Hopefully it'll just be a matter of concentrating on a fantasy release followed by a contemporary, followed by a fantasy, followed by a contemporary and so on. We'll see :)
