The Fade

While I've been cooped up inside, safe from the storm ripping through Scotland, I've been pondering the dilemma that is The Chronicles of the Fade.
When I first started writing about this world I jotted down notes for a possible two to three more books. After I published Slumber, however, I couldn't seem to get those ideas to work without ruining what has become a special book to me. Perhaps it's because Slumber is a fantasy novel set in a world created completely from my own imagination that makes it different for me from my other books, but I'm afraid to do anything that will detract from the first story. I've finally come up with plans for a second book that I'm happy with but... those plans mean there will only be two books. I know some of you have asked for it to be extended to a trilogy or even a quadrilogy as originally planned and I'm so sorry to not be doing that for you... but I feel adding to the story in order to lengthen the series would be detrimental to the quality of the storytelling itself.

So... the other problem... it can no longer be called Chronicles of the Fade... well it could be... but it would just make me laugh :-p

The series has been renamed The Fade. Slumber (The Fade: Part One) and Sneak Thievery (The Fade: Part Two). Now I never say never... if somewhere down the line I do feel another book would work in the series then I will write it for all you Fade fans. For now, however, the plans are to finish Sneak Thievery with an ending that will satisfy as a conclusion to that world.

Cheers,

Sam x

  1. Aw, sad, but I love the way you've tied the two together. I cherish the story and characters of Slumber. I wouldn't want the Fade to conclude any other way then you see fit. Who knows the world and the characters better than you. Maybe in the future, you can pull a P.C. Cast, Parthalon series move and return to the world years later. Btw, if you like that series, I hear she may be writing another. If you haven't read them, you should. I think you would enjoy them. My fave of the series is the last book, Brighid's Quest.

Still very much looking forward to Sneak Thievery!

All the best Sam! Happy holidays!

  3. I completely understand, and I'm so glad you're keeping Slumber as its own special book and not taking an ax to it to make things fit. I'll keep hoping that another book will fit in nicely, and until then I'll treasure Slumber and Sneak Thievery! (For instance, I might just go bananas if Kir got his own book, haha!)

  5. Thank you guys for being so supportive. I love you guys, you're awesome!

@Bella - I have three of the parthalon books on my bookshelf, including Brighid's Quest. Can it be read as a standalone do you think? Anyhoo, I need to get around to reading them. Thanks again, Bella, and Happy Holidays to you too :-)

@Rachel and Sally - It's a thought! Thanks guys :-D and as I say... never say never, right. I actually hope that sometime down the line a story does open up before me because I love writing in world of the Fade. We'll see ;-) For now I'm gonna work my ass off to make sure Sneak Thievery does Slumber justice.

  6. That sounds good to me. There's no point dragging it out into 3 or 4 books if you're not going to be happy with it. If you're not happy with it then your readers wont be either. Two books with a fab ending is good for me :-)
