I was super excited to see the postman this morning, and no it's not because he looks like Alexander Skarsgard who plays Eric in True Blood (although how freaking AWESOME would that be *wipes drool from chin*). No, indeed it was for the parcel he came bearing. The parcel with my giveaway prize! Yay. I won Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini from the fantabulous blog, Fiktshun, and not only did it arrive today but it arrived and it's the US version which, in my opinion, is sooo much prettier than the UK version. I've heard great things about this book, and like my own novels, Angelini delves into the world of Greek mythology. Starcrossed is supposed to be an homage to The Illiad and Romeo & Juliet, two plays I've read about a million times, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the author has done with it. If you haven't heard of Starcrossed check it out...

How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.
Really looking forward to this one. And a huge thank you to Rachel @ Fiktshun for holding such a great giveaway and sending on my prize so promptly :-)

I could NOT put this book down. I read it before I found you and the Lunamorte series, which was another series I couldn't put down. I read LOTS of YA fantasy and am so sick of skinny vampires :) but back to "Starcrossed". I cannot wait for the next book!

ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying this one so far. Angelini's twist on the mythology is very clever.
